;69 Chevelle 427/425hp,1 of 1 4speed cars.
This incredible 1969 COPO Chevelle is not only one of just three Black ’69 COPOs known to have been built, it is the only one of those three equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. Documented as having been sold through Chevrolet dealer Wagner Motor Sales of Wauseon, Ohio, this entirely numbers-matching Tuxedo Black stealth bomber is equipped with the famous L72 425-horsepower 427 with 11:1 compression, a rock-solid bottom end, special high-lift mechanical cam, high-flow heads and Holley carburetion on a high-rise aluminum intake. The 427 exhales through a chambered exhaust system that provides the best tuned big block sound possible without open headers. An M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed handles the engine’s torque while a 4.10 Posi unit passes it along to Goodyear Wide Tread F70-14 tires.
The car shares one of the features that have endeared the COPO series to generations of fans and collectors: there are no callouts to indicate the car’s real nature. The only visual nods to performance are the twin bulges quietly keeping a low profile atop the hood; subtle Red stripes along the body side creases, blacked-out grille and “SS”-badged Magnum-style wheels. The base-level interior is also typical of the breed, with plain Black bench seats and an arching Hurst shifter, but there are also a few extras: a wood-rim Sport steering wheel, special instrumentation and a push-button AM radio.
The subject of a feature article and cover shot for Muscle Car Power magazine’s December 2007 issue, this is a carefully restored and correct car whose documentation includes extensive owner history, titles, two build sheets and a reproduction window sticker.
